Experience the most advanced bone health assessment available, safe, fast, radiation-free, and highly accurate using Radiofrequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry (REMS) technology. Discover bone strength beyond bone density alone, and learn about your 5-year fracture risk. Prevent fractures before they occur.
Radiation-Free Bone Density & Bone Quality Testing now available in Kern County. Portable – we can come to you.
REMS is reproducible Radiation-Free ultrasound solution that evaluates:

Bone Mineral Density (BMD or T Score)

Bone Quality (Fragility Score)

5-Year Fracture Risk
Echolight Diagnostic Center

What Is REMS?
REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi-Spectrometry), is an advanced, Radiation-Free, FDA-cleared, ultrasound technology developed by Echolight Medical used to assess complete Bone Health. REMS analyses raw ultrasound radiofrequency signals to evaluate bone mineral density and trabecular bone quality, providing fracture-risk information independent of BMD. REMS measures:
- Bone Mineral Density (BMD or T-Score)
- Bone Quality & Micro-architecture (Fragility Score or FS)
- 5-year Fracture Risk Estimate
- Body Composition Metrics
We Measure

Lumbar Spine (L1-L4)
BMD (T-Score), Fragility Score (FS)

Hip(s) Femoral Neck
BMD (T-Score), Fragility Score (FS)

5-Year Major Osteoporotic Fracture Risk
R1-R7 Fracture Risk Severity

Body Composition
Body Fat%, Fat Mass, Visceral Fat
Water Content, Basal Metabolism, BMI

Why Echolight REMS vs. DXA?
| Feature | Traditional DXA Scan | Echolight REMS |
|---|---|---|
| Radiation | ✖ Ionizing Radiation | ✔ Radiation-Free |
| Bone Quality Assessment | ✖ Only density | ✔ Density + Quality |
| Artifact Errors | ✔ Common | ✖ Minimized/Excluded |
| Repeat Testing | ✖ Every 1–2 years | ✔ As often as every 3–6 months |

FAQs
Is REMS safe?
Yes — REMS uses ultrasound, not X-rays, making it safe for repeated use and appropriate for those concerned about radiation exposure. There is painless, non-invasive test requiring no special prep or undressing. REMS is safe for pregnant women and children.
How is REMS better than DXA?
REMS evaluates both bone mineral density (T score) and bone quality (Fragility score) and avoids errors commonly found in X-ray based scans. REMS can accurately predict 5-Year fracture risk combining T score and Fragility Score.
DXA scan can have errors with Osteophytes, Scoliosis, Arthritis, Previous Surgery, Fractures, Different Machines, Technicians, etc. All these artifacts are excluded with REMS.
How long does a scan take?
Will insurance cover the test?
Even though REMS is FDA cleared, it is not covered by Medicare or insurances. Ask for our bulk discount.
